Frequently Asked Questions
What do you need to test my plants?
Deep Roots Tissue testing needs a 4mm round punch biopsy from a leaf to extract DNA and RNA for testing.
For HLVd and other virus testing, please submit 5 leaves/petioles from different branches of the plant, along with a small CLEAN portion of the surface roots. Samples should remain cool, on refrigeration but not frozen. See the sampling directions here.

How can I get my samples to you?
You can ship samples to us, or drop them off in person. For commercial facilities with seed to sale tracking, we can come to you to take samples, extract DNA, and return the tissue samples to you without removing any plant material from the facility.
What will I receive back from the testing?
After submitting tissue samples, you will receive a Certificate of Analysis for your chosen assays. Amplification plots available upon request.
How do you test for pathogens or sex determination?
The DNA and RNA is extracted from the submitted sample. The DNA and RNA is then probed for sequences that indicate the presence of specific organisms or viruses. Quantitative PCR is carried out for all samples to ensure appropriate controls. Colormetric PCR assays can be done on site if immediate results are required.
When will I have my results?
Your results will be ready and can be emailed, or mailed in approximately 2-3 days.
Why should I use this company?
I have over 15 years experience in scientific research, including plant research. I have extensive background in nucleic acid manipulation, isolation and characterization. I have published research on DNA analysis. I have a background in plant biotechnology specifically plant tissue culture. Deep Roots has been culturing cannabis since 2020, and testing since 2021. Best Laboratory Practices are employed to ensure your samples are kept safe from environmental variations.
